What is your reason for knitting? What do you feel when you knit? Your answers might change from project to project, over time or stay the same. I have knit because it makes me happy or because it makes me feel like I am accomplishing something. When I knit for others, I do it out of love. Sometimes, I knit for myself out of love, too. I knit to relieve sadness and anxiety, when I am restless or when I am bored. I knit to be creative. I knit with friends and colleagues and strangers — among shared stories and lots of laughter. Over the three decades that I have had stitches on my needles, I have most consistently knit because it comforts me and calms my over-active mind.
I believe all these things — my intentions, my feelings, my hopes and dreams — get infused in the stitches I am creating and are still present in the finished knit. The sweater I worked on when I was filled with excitement never fails to brighten my day and the shawl I knit during a more difficult time, still offers a loving hug. In other words, I believe that objects can hold energies, which is why I think I am drawn to crystals. I use them as a tool to help me work through any difficulties I am facing, to bring love and comfort, and above all, to quiet my mind.
